For most of us, the RVing lifestyle provides the freedom to leave home without leaving the comforts of home. Whether we’re headed off for weekend trips to a beachside campground or embarking on a several-month long, cross-country road trip, we’ll come back home eventually. But for some RVers, the motorhome is home. Making RVing a full-time endeavor is a fun and adventurous way to explore all of the fascinating and unique nooks and crannies of America and beyond.

Learn how to plan for full-time RV living in this guide.

When an RV becomes more than just a home-away-from-home, the floor plan, features, and fit and finish all take on additional importance. In this post, we share our top four RVs for full-time living. These fifth wheels and travel trailers make it easy to turn the RV lifestyle into a full-time pursuit.

1. Keystone Montana

All-Weather Design, Big Views

True to its namesake state, the Keystone Montana comes equipped for comfortable living year-round. With their Four Season Living Package, you won’t feel pressured to start rolling off to warmer climates when the seasons change. This package includes heated holding tanks and dump valves, insulated in floor water lines and heating ductwork, upgraded AC and furnace units, as well as extra insulation.

With twenty-three floor plans to choose from, you’ll find one that meets your needs perfectly. You’ll enjoy 41 feet of living space with three slideouts for even more space to spread out, allowing room for features that make this fifth wheel downright home-like. For full-time living, we like the 3921FB floor plan with the optional king size bed. The addition of a hide-a-bed sofa adds more sleeping space for guests or your youngsters. Power theater seating, two HD TVs, and a fireplace will provide plenty of options for relaxing time with family. A residential size refrigerator means you won’t have to sacrifice cold storage space when calling this place home. If that’s not convincing, the master bath features double sinks on the vanity, a 48” x 30” shower with a seat, and a soaking bathtub.

2. Airstream Classic

American Icon, Modern Design with Tech Savvy Features

Smooth lines and the signature bare aluminum outer shell make Airstream the most recognizable RV manufacturer in the business. Contemporary design and attention to detail secured this RV a spot on our list. The Airstream Classic is the largest of Airstream’s travel trailers. This RV features all of the bells and whistles you’ve come to expect from Airstream.

The Classic is available in four floor plans. We like the 33FB floor plan for the three extra feet of length and queen size, memory foam, pillow top mattress. This isn’t your mom’s Airstream. It’s loaded with technology geared towards entertainment and practicality. The Classic is prewired with plenty of USB outlets for charging up all of your tech. The Polk brand stereo comes equipped with both satellite radio and Bluetooth capabilities, giving you the option of pulling down your favorite tunes from above or streaming them from your phone. A massive 65” projection TV provides the perfect screen to watch all of the latest playoff action or keep you up-to-date with your favorite shows.

Airstream’s technological advances aren’t just all fun and games though. Their app puts you in control of all of the key features of your rig from lighting levels to monitoring LP and tank levels remotely. When bad weather rolls in, the app even lets you retract the awning, all done from your smartphone, even if you’re many miles away. If you’re in the RV, the Multiplex digital panel inside lets you control all of the above mentioned features in one place.

3. Northwood Arctic Fox

Luxury Features, All-Weather Capabilities

With high-end features providing all-weather flexibility, Northwood’s Arctic Fox is well-suited for providing comfort in all four seasons. As its name implies, this RV is a serious all-weather fifth wheel. It’s constructed on an off-road chassis with shocks on all four wheels, making it more rugged and broadening the range of places it can be towed into. The one-piece front cap features a BackRoad Armor coating for added durability in rough conditions. The Arctic Fox also includes all-season insulation so you can live comfortably year round.

The 25Y floor plan is special due to its unique dual entryways. The master bedroom has dedicated access to the outdoors, adding a sense of privacy and convenience. Although the Arctic Fox is ruggedly built, there are some creature comforts worth pointing out. The vaulted ceiling makes this RV feel more spacious. Skylights in the kitchen and master bath let in lots of natural light. The garden tub and shower combination allows enough flexibility for a quick cleanup or a relaxing soak. A residential size, built-in microwave and extra large fridge make this
RV the perfect place for dishing out home-cooked meals.

4. Grand Design Reflection

Practical Design, Convenient Features

Built for full-time RVing, Grand Designs manufactures fifth wheels that are filled with handy features for folks who live on the road. We like their Reflection model for its spacious floorplans and focus on all-weather design.

The 367BHS floor plan is a favorite thanks to its extra length, bringing the total to 41 feet. Two tri-fold sofas provide plenty of room to relax while watching TV or enjoying watching the flames flickering in the fireplace. One of the two tri-folds even includes a cleverly-placed additional sleeping area above it. The option to upgrade to a king size bed is worth the expense for full-timers. An island-style kitchen sink and counter makes this fifth wheel feel more like home. The 12 cubic foot fridge offers a lot of cold storage. A 21 foot and 10 foot pair of awnings outside increases the amount of outdoor living space considerably.

If you’re considering making this RV your only home, consider adding their Artic 4-Season Protection Package. This add-on will get you an upgraded furnace, double insulated roof, insulated slideout floors, and a heated and enclosed underbelly with circulating heat.

RV Covers & Accessories Protect Your Motorhome

If you decide to store your RV for any length of time, a top-quality RV cover will extend its useful life by defending it from a range of environmental hazards. We offer well-respected brands like Classic Accessories and ADCO that manufacture covers made from water-repellent and breathable fabrics. These covers keep moisture, UV rays, and debris from trees and other natural sources from making contact with the the surface of your motorhome.

When you’re out on an adventure, your RV needs protection too. RV tire covers are an effective way to prevent sunlight from degrading the synthetic material in your tires while parked. Fifth wheel storage skirts extend the space you have available for your gear while camping.

Your RV is the key to a level of freedom and adventure that most people are content to only dream about. Whether you own a fifth wheel, Class A rig, or anything in between, your RV is an investment that’s worth protecting.
